Adaptive Generalist Learning Lab
Emmy Noether Research Group (DFG) · Institute for Anthropomatics and Robotics, KIT
The Adaptive Generalist Learning (AGL) Lab is an Emmy Noether research group funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), hosted at KIT’s Institute for Anthropomatics and Robotics. Led by André Biedenkapp, we develop reinforcement learning methods that produce highly adaptable, generalist policies. Today’s RL agents work superbly under the conditions they were trained for, but reach their limits quickly once those conditions change — our project, From Mediocre to Masterful Generalists: The Power of Context in RL, studies how giving agents additional contextual information about their environment lets them recognize which behaviors suit which situations. The goal is to reduce reliance on expensive, hand-tuned simulations and open up real-world applications of RL in robotics, logistics, and resource management.
We are always interested in hearing from prospective students and collaborators — meet the team on our people page, browse our publications, or get in touch.
